Diagnostics

In medical diagnostics, the transport of liquid substances such as blood, urine, saliva – plus the reagents required for the test – is important for carrying out initial rapid tests or already in-depth examinations in hospitals and laboratories.

Thanks to their small size, our micropumps also show their advantages here and sometimes speed up analyses extremely, while at the same time delivering reliable results and convincingly short throughput times.

These can be life-sustaining aspects when it is necessary to assess the condition of a patient as quickly as possible in order to be able to make diagnostic decisions.

Identification of MRSA and COVID-19 Germs

In medical diagnostics, the transport of fluid substances such as blood, urine, saliva – plus the reagents necessary for the test – is important in order to carry out initial rapid tests or more in-depth examinations in hospitals and laboratories.

Here, too, our micro-pumps display their advantages thanks to their small size and sometimes significantly accelerate the analysis, while at the same time delivering reliable results and impress with short lead times.

These can be life-sustaining aspects when it comes to assessing a patient’s condition as quickly as possible in order to be able to make diagnostic decisions. The portable device is distributed by GenSpeed Biotech.

Lab-on-a-Chip

Lab-on-a-Chip refers to a system that compresses the functionality of a macroscopic laboratory onto a plastic substrate the size of a credit card.

With the help of microfluidic functional elements, the smallest samples are conveyed, mixed, filtered, separated, incubated and analysed. In this way, several indicators can be checked simultaneously and directly optically evaluated.

Together with partners, we have realised a mobile analysis unit for body fluids in the Physiocheck project, in which the micropumps are also used. And all this in the size of a microscope slide

Cell Culture

In biotechnology, the growing of cell cultures is an important element. This applies to bioreactors which produce biological substances via cells and also to cell systems which are used, for example, as test systems for the effect of pharmaceuticals.

„Organ on Chip” can be mentioned as an example: The cultivation of entire cell lines is intended to make comparable cell material available for investigations. In order for the cells to fulfil their tasks, they have to be supplied with the appropriate material in the bioreactors. This includes the appropriate temperature and light conditions as well as the supply of nutrients (e.g. glucose) or the addition of growth promoters or inhibitors.
Many tasks can be performed by automatic pump systems, which are superior to purely manual dosing in quality and convenience. Our micropumps can be placed very close to the reactors due to their small design, low energy requirements and long lifetime. The placement in the incubator is therefore also easy to set up.

Tissue Engineering

The Tissue Engineering concerns the artificial production of biological tissues through the targeted cultivation of cells.
A fascinating topic in medical technology.
Cartilage or other damaged structures can already be cultivated.

Researchers assumes that in the future entire organs could be grown in this way.
Our micropump is used, for example, in bioreactors during the growth of the cells in order to supply the growing tissue parts with nutrient fluids.

Sensor Feeding

It is not only the small dimensions which make it possible to operate our micro-pumps as a unit with the sensor as integrated assemblies. Our pumps also consume very little power, enabling a trouble-free battery operation in order to operate small, mobile devices.

Depending on customer requirements, we can either integrate the electronics into the system electronics or install them in an enlarged pump housing.

Therefore, the areas of application of this “Supply” of the sensor ranges from the Blood glucose measurement via the blood pressure measurement, the blood oxygen saturation to the monitoring and control of anaesthetic gases.
