Task of this development project was a microfluidic chip system for mobile synthesis of chemicals. Based on a reaction scheme and general chip layout combined with a material choice the following topics as fluidic design, low cost actuation mechanisms, electrical structures / interfaces, assembly and fabrication technologies were addressed. Together with external partners the concept was proven by fabrication of a pilot lot by injection molding. After successful assembly and test of the chips the proven design is being transfered into mass fabrication.
The application of such systems can for example be found in the radio-pharmaceutical industry driven by the needs for cost effective and faster preparation of unit patient doses, the need for lighter transportation systems and hospital’s needs for reduced exposure.
